King Bhumibol Adulyadej
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the United States of America, on December 5, 1927, Blessed with a perceptive as well as imaginative mind, His Majesty has set himself with relish from the beginning of His Reign to analyze and find the true circumstances of the task at hand. His inborn sense of intense dedication guides him in his efforts to devise the best approach and then accomplish the task in the best possible manner. His sense of involvement, be it small or significant duties, is always so total that he is never content until each duty is carried out to his complete satisfaction.
Queen Sirikit
Her Majesty Queen Sirikit is the daughter of His Highness Prince Chandaburi Suranath (Mom Chao Nakkhatra Mangkala Kitiyakara) and Mom Luang Bua Kitiyakara (nee Mom Luang Bua Snidwongse).
She was born on August 12, 1932. She attended kindergarten class at Rajini School, but subsequently went to St. Francis Xavier convent school at Samsen District in Bangkok. Her father later on became Thai Minister to France, then to Denmark and, ultimately, Ambassador to the Court of St. James in England. Her Majesty accompanied him and continued her general education in the three countries and lastly in Switzerland.
It was while her father was stationed in Paris that she first met His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who was then studying in Switzerland but went now and then to Paris. The chance meeting in Paris ripened into friendship and understanding. When His Majesty met with a very serious motor accident in Geneva, Switzerland, and had to stay in a hospital at Lausanne, Her Majesty was a frequent visitor. When His Majesty was well again and left the hospital, he was graciously pleased to arrange for Her Majesty to continue her studies at Riante Rive, a boarding school in Lausanne. On July 19, 1949, Their Majesties were quietly engaged in Lausanne. On March 24, 1950, Their Majesties landed in Bangkok by ship after a long absence. On April 28 of the same year, the royal wedding took place at Pathumwan Palace.
Princess Ubol Ratana
Her Royal Highness Princess Ubol Ratana was born on April 5, 1951 in Lausanne, Switzerland, and graduated from the Faculty of Science at Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States of America with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Bio-Chemistry in 1973. She was married to Mr. Peter Ladd Jensen and now resides in Thailand.
Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn was born on July 28, 1952, in the Ambara Villa of the Royal Dusit Palace in Bangkok, Thailand. He is the second of four children, and is the only son of Their Majesties King Bhumibol Adulyadej and Queen Sirikit. His Majesty the King conferred him with the title of "Somdech Phra Boroma Orasadhiraj Chao Fah Maha Vajiralongkorn Sayam Makutrajakuman" on December 28, 1972, making him the Crown Prince and heir to the throne.
Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
Her Royal Highnesses Princess Maha Chakri was born on April 2, 1955 in Bangkok, Thailand, and was conferred the title of “Somdech Phra Debaratana Rajasuda Chao Fah Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Rathasimakunakornpiyajat Sayam Boroma Rajakumari” by His Majesty the King on December 5, 1977. Her Royal Highness graduated from Faculty of Arts at Chulalongkorn University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History, First Class Honors, in 1976. In 1979, Her Royal Highness received a Master of Arts Degree in Oriental Epigraphy from the Graduate School of Silapakorn University and in the following year received a Master of Arts Degree in Oriental Languages from the Graduate School at Chulalongkorn University. Her Royal Highness also received her Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Educational Development from Srinakharinwirot University in 1986. A gifted performer on traditional Thai musical instruments, she regularly accompanies her father on his visits to his provincial projects and assists him in collecting information relevant to their operation.
Princess Chulabhorn
Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn was born on July 4, 1957 in Bangkok, Thailand, and graduated from the Faculty of Science and Arts at Kasetsart University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Organic Chemistry, First Class Honors, in 1979. Her Royal Highness completed her doctorate work in organic chemistry in 1985, and received her Doctor of Philosophy Degree from Mahidol University in July of the same year. As a gifted scientist, she was awarded the coveted Einstein Gold Medal in 1986. On December 1, 1987, she set up the Chulabhorn Research Institute to promote scientific research in Thailand, and she has lectured on a number of occasions before academic groups abroad. In 1982 she was once married to Flight Lieutenant Virayuth Didyasarin, a fighter pilot, and they have two daughters, Their Royal Highnesses Princess Siribhachudhabhorn and Princess Adityadornkitikhun. Both Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn have traveled abroad frequently to represent their country at a variety of ceremonies.
